PNGRB Selection, once again room for Controversy?

PNGRB Selection, once again room for Controversy?

NewsIP – New Delhi: In a dramatic turn of events, top-level sources have revealed to NewsIP that a staggering Over Dozens of Candidates have thrown their hats into the ring for a single position of Member at the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).

The applicants, all from the Chief General Manager (CGM) to Executive Director (ED) levels, are now going to be locked into a high-stakes battle for the coveted position in the regulatory body .

The Petroleum Ministry recently invited applications for this key position, setting an Age Cap of 60 years as of June 15, 2025. The urgency of the appointment is underscored by the upcoming fact of end of tenure for PNGRB Member, Gajendra Singh, who has served since August 9, 2021.

This unusual Selection Process has raised Eyebrows. Industry insiders are questioning the government’s approach to the selection process. Experts argue that by excluding officers of Director and Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) levels, the government has effectively severely limited the pool of talent to choose from. This raises a crucial question: Is the government prioritizing young, lesser experienced candidates over more mature and quality-driven leadership. Or is it simply focussing on increasing the number of applicants?

“If the goal is merely to fill a seat, then the current criteria makes sense,” said a senior industry expert. “But if PNGRB is expected to make bold and visionary decisions, then this selection process is inadequate.”

Leadership Gap could well impact PNGRB’s Future. A major concern among experts is the gap in strategic thinking between candidates at the CGM or ED level versus those with experience as Directors or CMDs. “The depth of decision-making and industry-wide vision at the top leadership level is vastly different from what an ED or CGM typically brings to the table,” a source stated.

With one seat and over Dozens contenders, the PNGRB appointment battle is bound to be a heated affair. But the bigger question remains— Is the government setting the stage for young, strong willed, action oriented leadership, or merely trying to fill just another position?

Readers of NewsIP will recall another interesting historical fact. Mr Nanaware was tipped to become member , PNGRB some time back. It was almost certain but suddenly he did not make it. Well, strange are the ways of the Government. Let’s hope that this time the exercise brings in a positive impact.
