New Delhi: In a significant bureaucratic reshuffle, the Government of India has announced the appointment of Shri Neeraj Mittal, IAS (TN:92), as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Shri Mittal, who previously served as the Secretary in the Department of Telecommunications,
takes over from Mr. Pankaj Jain. Mr. Jain has been appointed as the Member Secretary of the Eighth Central Pay Commission, a key position that plays a crucial role in determining the salaries and allowances of government employees.
The transition will take effect from the date Mr. Jain steps down to assume his new responsibilities at the Pay Commission. This strategic move is part of a broader effort by the government to ensure that key ministries are led by officials with strong administrative experience and technical expertise.
Shri Neeraj Mittal, an alumnus of IIT Kanpur, brings to the table a robust background in electrical engineering. His tenure in the 1992 batch of the Tamil Nadu cadre has been marked by a no-nonsense approach to governance and policy implementation. His technical prowess and strong leadership skills are expected to drive significant initiatives in the energy sector, which is a critical area for India’s economic growth and sustainability.
Sources from NewsIP believe Mittal’s appointment is strategic, especially given the ministry’s complex challenges, including energy security, PSU top chair appointments, and the transition to renewable sources.
