New Delhi: GAIL is scaling up its role in India’s energy infrastructure, with CMD Deepak Gupta stating that the company transmitted an average of about 122 MMSCMD of natural gas through its pipeline network and marketed nearly 104 MMSCMD, including global sales.
The company, which operates India’s largest natural gas pipeline network, is advancing the National Gas Grid with an existing network of more than 18,690 kilometres . Another nearly 1,500 kilometres is under construction, taking the total network close to 20,000 kilometres once ongoing projects are completed.
GAIL’s LNG sourcing base has also strengthened. Its portfolio now stands at 16.56 MMTPA, supported by long-term contracts and market-linked procurement. During FY 2025-26**, the company imported 132 LNG cargoes, including seven spot cargoes, helping maintain supply for priority customers despite volatility in global markets.
To improve LNG logistics, GAIL has expanded shipping support through long-term charter agreements for GAIL Bhuwan, with 180,000 cubic metres capacity, and Energy Fidelity, with 174,000 cubic metres capacity. The company now has access to 9 LNG vessels, including 5 under long-term charter.
GAIL’s international presence is also widening through its overseas subsidiaries. GAIL Global (USA) LNG LLC supports sourcing and liquefaction arrangements for the US portfolio, while GAIL Global (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. is focused on LNG trading and international business. The company has also established GAIL Global IFSC Limited at GIFT City to support treasury management and explore international financial services and ship leasing opportunities.
A major operational milestone came at the Dabhol LNG Terminal , where completion of the breakwater facility enabled year-round operations. The terminal received its first LNG cargo during the monsoon season and also handled its 1000th LNG cargo during the year. Given the strategic importance of Konkan LNG Limited, the Board has approved its merger with GAIL for closer operational and strategic integration.
GAIL is also expanding India’s LPG transmission capacity. The 1,427-kilometre Jamnagar-Loni LPG Pipeline is being upgraded from 3.25 MMTPA to 6.5 MMTPA. In addition, PNGRB has authorised GAIL to develop three new LPG pipelines covering nearly 1,775 kilometres : Cherlapally-Nagpur Pipeline, Jhansi-Sitarganj Pipeline, and Shikrapur-Goa and Hubli Pipeline.
In petrochemicals, GAIL has commissioned a 60 KTA Polypropylene unit at Pata, increasing the integrated complex capacity from 810 KTA to 870 KTA. The company is also progressing with the 500 KTA PDH-PP Project at Usar India’s first propane dehydrogenation-based polypropylene complex, being developed with an estimated investment of around ₹11,256 crore.
City Gas Distribution remains a key demand driver. Through subsidiaries and joint ventures, GAIL Group companies are authorised in 72 Geographical Areas**, serving around 109 lakh PNG customers and operating more than 3,400 CNG stations.
Compressed Biogas is another growth focus. As the nodal agency for the CBG-CGD Synchronisation Scheme, GAIL recorded its highest-ever CBG sales. Investment approval has been secured for six new CBG plants, with the company moving toward its target of setting up 26 CBG plants by 2030.
