Innovative Aviation: BPCL-GHIAL Pact for ATF Pipeline

Innovative Aviation: BPCL-GHIAL Pact for ATF Pipeline

GOA: On January 27, 2026, in Goa, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), recognized as a Fortune Global 500 entity and a Maharatna public sector unit, has furthered its commitment to enhancing India’s aviation fuel network. It announced a partnership to build a specialized Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) pipeline extending from its Malkapur Installation directly to the Fuel Farm at GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL).

This initiative, formalized through a pact between BPCL and GHIAL, aims to boost the reliability and sustainability of fuel delivery to one of the rapidly expanding airports in India. The agreement was finalized by BPCL’s Chief General Manager – Marketing (Aviation), Shri Sujit Kumar, and GHIAL’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Ashish Kumar.

Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Business Head – Aviation at BPCL, remarked on the occasion, “For years, BPCL has led the way in setting up aviation fuel facilities at Indian airports. This new pipeline project underscores our dedication to developing resilient and forward-thinking energy solutions while also prioritizing a reduction in carbon emissions through decreased reliance on road transport for fuel.”

Mr. Pradeep Panicker, Chief Executive Officer at GHIAL, also expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. He noted, “This partnership with BPCL to establish a shared-use fuel pipeline is in line with our commitment to cost-effective and eco-friendly practices. It’s a critical move towards a more sustainable future, essential in our current global climate.”

The planned pipeline will cover a distance of 56 kilometers, including about one kilometer within the airport boundaries. Designed to operate as a common carrier, it will ensure efficient and continuous fuel supply, while significantly minimizing the need for road transport of ATF, thereby reducing carbon emissions and enhancing both safety and operational efficiencies.

This development aligns with BPCL’s focus on operational excellence and environmental stewardship, promising a significant reduction in carbon footprints and a leap towards enhanced sustainability in aviation fuel logistics.
