New Delhi, September 10, 2026: Indraprastha Gas Limited has delivered a strong employment outcome from the first batch of its Skill Development Programme in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, with 30 out of 45 trained local candidates recruited by contracting organisations working on PNG projects.
The initiative comes as India expands City Gas Distribution networks and strengthens domestic energy infrastructure amid global fuel market volatility, supply chain disruptions and geopolitical tensions. As Piped Natural Gas adoption grows in place of LPG, the demand for trained technicians in pipeline installation, domestic connections, testing, safety compliance and field operations has become increasingly important.
IGL, India’s largest City Gas Distribution company, designed the three-day programme to prepare local youth for frontline technical roles while supporting the manpower needs of the fast-growing CGD sector. The company plans to train 100 candidates across two batches.
Training was conducted by IGL’s in-house subject-matter experts through classroom learning and practical field-based sessions. Candidates received instruction in PNG installation, Galvanised Iron and copper pipeline fabrication, threading, underground MDPE pipeline jointing, tool handling, fire prevention, emergency response and risk-control practices.
After the training, IGL organised a recruitment drive where participating contractors and companies met the candidates directly. The hiring of two-thirds of the first batch reflected the programme’s focus on moving participants from skill-building to employment-linked opportunities.
Participant Shri Promod Kumar said the practical sessions helped trainees understand real site conditions, while safety and fire-prevention training gave them confidence to work responsibly.
Shri Rohit of Utkarsh said the initiative gave contractors direct access to trained candidates familiar with PNG installation and safety requirements, helping them strengthen field teams efficiently.
Shri Raj Kapoor of KHM Infra described the programme as a structured and practical effort to connect contractors with professionally trained frontline workers in the CGD sector.
With the first batch completed, IGL is preparing to conduct the second batch under its plan to train 100 candidates. The company also aims to roll out the Skill Development Programme in various regions, creating a local pool of trained, safety-conscious and employment-ready personnel while supporting India’s energy infrastructure growth.
