During the “6th Annual Conclave – Digitization of CGD Networks,” Mr. Mohit Bhatia, Director (Commercial) at Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), delivered insights into the transformative impact of digital technologies on the City Gas Distribution (CGD) industry. Mr. Bhatia articulated that digitalization transcends traditional IT roles, serving as a crucial pillar for enhancing sustainability, competitive edge, energy security, and organizational resilience within the sector.
He discussed how IGL is incorporating advanced digital tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, automation, and comprehensive digital ecosystems to revolutionize CGD operations. Mr. Bhatia’s presentation covered a wide array of digital initiatives undertaken by IGL aimed at improving operational efficiencies, reducing costs, enhancing customer interactions, maintaining asset integrity, and optimizing energy usage. Key technologies highlighted included smart metering systems, predictive maintenance protocols, SCADA system integration, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), digital twin technology, AI-driven customer support, and automation of routine processes.
Looking ahead, Mr. Bhatia shared IGL’s strategic vision to evolve into a more connected, intelligent, and anticipatory enterprise. This vision is supported by a commitment to leveraging AI for enhanced customer service, adopting intelligent methods for procurement and tender processes, managing digital assets effectively, employing advanced analytics, fortifying cybersecurity measures, and enabling real-time decision-making capabilities.
He poignantly noted that the competitive landscape for future CGD entities will pivot not just on basic factors like product, margins, and infrastructure, but increasingly on the smartness and responsiveness of their operational networks.
