Prime Minister Modi Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Smriti

New Delhi, October 3, 2026 :  Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a special all-faith prayer meeting at Gandhi Smriti on Friday to mark Gandhi Jayanti. He offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and recalled his principles of truth, peace and non-violence.

Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan also paid floral tribute at Gandhi Smriti. He remembered Mahatma Gandhi’s role in India’s independence movement and his message of harmony, social uplift and social cohesion.

Public participation formed a significant part of the evening gathering. Around 300 children from more than 50 schools across Delhi and the National Capital Region presented songs centred on harmony and goodwill.

Students and artists also performed devotional songs during the programme.

Stephen Priesner, the United Nations Resident Coordinator, presented a message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the International Day of Non-Violence.

Religious leaders representing different faiths conducted the all-faith prayer. The programme also featured a musical presentation by dhrupad singer Bhai Baldeep Singh, who performed compositions associated with Sant Kabir, Mirabai and Sant Ravidas.
