NBCC Initiates Construction of New IIFT Campus in New DelhiNBCC (India) Limited, recognized as a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, has initiated the construction of a new Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) campus in Maidangarhi, New Delhi. The groundbreaking ceremony, which took place on May 5, 2026, marks the beginning of this ambitious project with an approved budget of approximately Rs. 350 crore.
The event saw the presence of Dr. K.P. Mahadevaswamy, Chairman & Managing Director of NBCC, who officiated as the Chief Guest. Dr. Suman Kumar, Director (Commercial) of NBCC, along with other prominent figures and institutional stakeholders, also attended the ceremony.
Dr. Mahadevaswamy highlighted the project’s significance, not just as a physical expansion, but as a strategic enhancement of IIFT’s capacity to foster international partnerships and academic prowess.
Set on a sprawling 7.55-acre property in the strategic locale of South Delhi near Chhatarpur, the campus is conveniently accessible from various city points, including metro stations and the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The planned built-up area is an expansive 54,000 sq. m., designed to serve as a comprehensive academic environment that supports research, learning, and global collaboration.
The architectural blueprint of the campus includes cutting-edge academic and residential facilities. The academic zone will feature technologically advanced classrooms, large lecture halls, faculty offices, and a state-of-the-art library. A notable addition will be a 1000-seat auditorium, ideal for hosting global conferences and institutional events. The residential area will boast a contemporary hostel that can accommodate over 600 students, along with dedicated housing for faculty, enhancing the campus community life.
In line with sustainable building practices, the campus design incorporates energy-efficient systems including LED lighting and solar panels, high-efficiency HVAC systems, and substantial daylight use in its layout. Environmental sustainability measures such as rainwater harvesting, water recycling, and the use of eco-friendly building materials are also integral to the design, aiming for a minimum 3-star GRIHA rating.
Additionally, the campus will offer modern infrastructural elements like a two-level basement parking capable of holding over 400 vehicles, universally accessible design standards, comprehensive fire safety systems, and a network of pedestrian and vehicle circulation paths. The inclusion of landscaped areas and interconnected walkways will further enhance the interactive and vibrant campus atmosphere.
This project is a testament to NBCC’s proven expertise in executing large-scale and significant projects, reinforcing its role as a leader in the development of institutional infrastructure across India.
