IndianOil Says Pipeline Damage Preceded Muzaffarpur Blast

New Delhi-02, Nov -2026: IndianOil says its City Gas Distribution (CGD) PNG pipeline at Gobarsahi, Muzaffarpur, was damaged during drain construction on 2 November 2026, leading to a gas leak and subsequent explosion. The company said preliminary information indicated the damage occurred during mechanical excavation by an external agency carrying out the work.

IndianOil said it was not involved in the drain construction or excavation. The company expressed condolences to the bereaved family and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

According to IndianOil, its emergency-response and technical teams mobilised after receiving information and are coordinating with local police, the district administration and fire services. The company said measures are being taken to secure the affected pipeline section, protect public safety and support safe restoration. IndianOil said it is providing technical support and cooperation to the authorities. It also reiterated that excavation near underground gas pipelines should be preceded by coordination with the relevant utility owner and follow prescribed safety protocols.
