India’s Energy Growth Story Offers Global Economic Opportunities- Puri

New Delhi: India’s energy sector is poised for a significant transformation, offering unprecedented economic opportunities for global partners, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, said during a media briefing on the first day of India Energy Week 2025 (IEW25).

Puri highlighted the major developments in the sector, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inaugural address. “India’s Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP) is progressing on an unprecedented scale, making it one of the largest offerings globally,” the minister said. He emphasized that the Indian energy landscape is evolving rapidly with policy shifts, particularly in moving from production-sharing agreements to revenue-sharing models.

“Between 2006 and 2016, progress in the sector was sluggish. But today, we are reversing that trend with multiple agreements signed with international partners,” Puri stated. The minister underscored the importance of these partnerships in driving India’s energy transition and sustainability goals.

On the biofuel front, India’s achievements are notable. “We have reached nearly 20% biofuel blending—well ahead of the set timeline. Similarly, our advancements in green hydrogen and compressed bio-gas are extremely encouraging,” he added. He also mentioned India’s growing role in green energy, with companies signing MoUs for the supply of green ammonia with global players from Germany to Singapore.

Strengthening Global Energy Ties During the first day of IEW25, Puri held meetings with key energy stakeholders, including representatives from Venezuela, the British Energy Secretary, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister, and Tanzania. These discussions focused on expanding energy collaborations and exploring new opportunities for growth.

Roundtables with U.S. officials and bilateral meetings with several other countries further added to the day’s momentum. “Each of these engagements reflects India’s growing influence in the global energy space,” Puri said.

The minister expressed optimism about the outcomes of these discussions and hinted at potential announcements in the coming days. “It’s just the beginning. We are moving forward at an exciting pace,” he concluded.
