THDCIL’s Mega 2,210 MW PSP Project: A Leap for India’s Energy

THDCIL’s Mega 2,210 MW PSP Project: A Leap for India’s Energy

In an important development for India’s renewable energy sector, THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat to set up the 2,210 MW Anjan Kund Pumped Storage Project (PSP) in Dang district. This significant project, with an estimated investment of ₹13,200 Crores, marks a substantial step forward in enhancing the nation’s energy infrastructure.

The MoU signing ceremony took place with notable grandeur on October 9, 2025, during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Mehsana. The event was graced by the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Sh. Bhupendrabhai Patel, along with other prominent officials including Shri Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, and Shri Kanubhai Desai, Gujarat’s Minister of Finance, Energy, and Petrochemicals.

Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDCIL, expressed that the agreement is a pivotal moment for the company and the nation. “This project is not just a testament to THDCIL’s commitment to advancing India’s energy storage capabilities but also aligns with our broader vision of enabling sustainable and stable power supply across the country,” he stated.

The Anjan Kund PSP will be one of the largest of its kind in India and is expected to play a crucial role in meeting peak power demands and stabilizing the electrical grid. The project will utilize surplus power from renewable sources to pump water from a lower reservoir to an upper reservoir. When the demand for electricity increases, water will be released back to the lower reservoir through turbines, generating electricity.

The Government of Gujarat will facilitate the necessary state-level support for the project, ensuring that all phases, from inception to execution, are streamlined and supported. THDCIL will lead the development of the project, bringing its extensive experience and technical expertise to the forefront. The company previously developed the 1,000 MW Tehri PSP, the largest pumped storage project undertaken by a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) in India, underscoring its capabilities in this sector.

The signing event also featured an engaging exhibition stall set up by THDCIL, which attracted a large number of visitors, highlighting the interest and excitement surrounding the new project.

This collaboration between THDCIL and the Government of Gujarat is not only a leap towards achieving India’s renewable energy goals but also a model of public-private partnership that could inspire similar initiatives in the future.
