NMDC Fosters National Growth and Skill Development in Bastar, Achieves Complete Job Placement for Local Youth
Hyderabad, February 5, 2026 – NMDC Limited, the premier iron ore company in India, recently celebrated a significant accomplishment in its efforts to promote self-reliance among the youth of Chhattisgarh. The company proudly announced the complete job placement of the inaugural batch of 80 young individuals from the Bastar division, following their completion of a job-oriented skill training program.
This initiative is a part of NMDC’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities and was conducted in collaboration with the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET). It is designed to uplift the unemployed and underprivileged tribal youth in Bastar by providing them with essential skills pertinent to the industry, thus paving the way for sustainable employment opportunities.
Felicitation and Experiences Shared
The accomplishment was marked by a felicitation ceremony attended by key NMDC leaders such as Shri Amitava Mukherjee, Chairman & Managing Director; Shri Vinay Kumar, Director (Technical) and Director (Commercial, Additional Charge); Shri Joydeep Dasgupta, Director (Production) and Director (Personnel, Additional Charge); alongside Shri P Shyam, GM (CSR) and Shri B. Ravi, Principal Director of CIPET. The event also saw participation from senior officials and staff members from both NMDC and CIPET.
The graduates, hailing from various districts across Chhattisgarh including Dantewada, Bastar, Sukma, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, and Bijapur, shared their transformative journeys. They discussed the limited opportunities back home and how the training not only provided them with employment but also instilled a newfound confidence to strive independently in life.
One of the trainees, Sukhram, a young man with a Class 12 education from Bastar, shared his personal story of overcoming early adversities. “Securing a job through this program is set to alter my family’s future significantly,” he remarked.
Leadership Insights
Shri Amitava Mukherjee reflected on the impact of the initiative, emphasizing that the integration of these young individuals into formal employment sectors underscores the transformative power of providing opportunities. “It’s not merely about job creation; it’s about integrating young individuals into the larger narrative of national development and progress,” he stated.
Shri Vinay Kumar commented on the evolution of Chhattisgarh and NMDC’s role in this transformation over the years. He extended his best wishes to the young professionals embarking on their career paths.
Moreover, Shri Joydeep Dasgupta highlighted the importance of the placement milestone and encouraged the graduates to continue advancing in their careers with perseverance and to aspire to become future entrepreneurs.
Inclusive Eligibility and Successful Outcomes
The program was notably inclusive, requiring a minimum educational qualification of Class 8, thus ensuring that even school dropouts and economically disadvantaged youths could participate. The successful placement of all 80 sponsored students from the first batch exemplifies the effectiveness and impact of the initiative.
