NMDC Sets Record April 2026 Iron Ore Production, Eyes Future GrowthHyderabad, May 2, 2026: NMDC, a leading force in the mining sector, announced that in April 2026, it produced 46.4 lakh tonnes and sold 36.8 lakh tonnes of iron ore.
As the premier producer of iron ore in India, NMDC has reported a significant 16% increase in its production for the opening month of FY27 compared to the same month the previous year. This surge is primarily attributed to record-breaking extraction activities at the Bailadila iron ore projects, marking April 2026 as the most productive April in the history of NMDC.
An examination of the iron ore production figures from the past four years shows a consistent annual growth rate of 3.9% across India. NMDC has surpassed this national average with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.8%, thus capturing a larger portion of the market’s incremental production.
Shri Amitava Mukherjee, the Chairman and Managing Director of NMDC, shared his enthusiasm about the company’s progress, “NMDC is vigorously expanding its operational capacities and capabilities. We have invested in enhancing our logistics, infrastructure, technological frameworks, and integration of our supply chains, setting the stage for substantial growth. With a starting point of 4.6 million tonnes this April, we are targeting production levels to exceed 60 million tonnes for the fiscal year. Our team is prepared, motivated, and eager to achieve these ambitious growth targets.”
With NMDC’s production reaching over 53 million tonnes in FY26 and a promising start to the new fiscal year, there is a renewed sense of optimism within the Indian iron and steel industry regarding future growth prospects.
