On May 6, 2026, Ashu Shinghal began his tenure as the Chief Executive Officer of GAIL Gas Limited, a prominent subsidiary of the Maharatna PSU GAIL (India) Limited. Before taking on this role, Shinghal was the Managing Director at Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL).
Shinghal, who has a background in Mechanical Engineering from NIT, Silchar, and holds an MBA with a focus in Operation Management, started his professional journey with GAIL in 1991 as a Graduate Engineer Trainee. Over the years, he ascended to the position of Executive Director, overseeing vital sectors including Corporate Strategy, Planning & Advocacy, Risk Management, Total Quality Management, and Sustainable Developments. His role also expanded to become the Chief Risk Officer of the company.
With a career that spans over three and a half decades in the hydrocarbon industry, Shinghal has a rich history of managing substantial projects related to Natural Gas Pipelines, Petrochemicals, City Gas Distribution, and LNG.
During his leadership at MGL, Shinghal was instrumental in significantly enhancing the company’s revenue and market capitalization, achieving record-breaking Profit After Tax, and expanding domestic PNG connections and CNG stations. His strategic initiatives also included branching into new business areas such as Compressed Bio Gas, LNG transportation, and battery production through various subsidiaries and partnerships.
Shinghal has played a crucial role in strategic planning and stakeholder engagement at GAIL, working closely with top management and representing the company in discussions with various international bodies, industry committees, and think tanks. As the Chief Risk and Strategy Officer at GAIL, he adeptly managed various risks including price, index, and currency exposures related to LNG contracts, thereby safeguarding the company’s financial health.
Additionally, Shinghal has held significant positions such as Chairman of Mahanagar LNG Private Limited (MLPL) and International Battery Company India Private Limited (IBC), and also served as a Director on the Boards of ONGC Petro Additions Limited (OPAL) and Talcher Fertilisers Limited (TFL).
