Krishna Kumar Thakur Appointed as New Director (Personnel) at NMDC
On March 20, 2026, NMDC Limited, which stands as the leading producer of iron ore in India, announced the appointment of Shri Krishna Kumar Thakur as the new Director (Personnel). A seasoned professional from the 1998 cadre of the Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS), Thakur brings over two decades of rich experience in human resources management and administration to his new role.
Throughout his illustrious career, Thakur has demonstrated exemplary leadership in various capacities within the Indian Railways and other Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs). His tenure includes significant roles in major railway divisions such as Solapur, Bhopal, and Mumbai. Notably, he served as the Chairman of the Railway Recruitment Cell at Western Railway, where he was responsible for the recruitment of approximately 12,000 employees, showcasing his capability in managing large-scale operations and enhancing workforce dynamics.
Thakur’s expertise extends beyond the railways. While at RITES, he contributed to an international train operations project in Saudi Arabia. He also led the human resources department at Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), where he was pivotal in refining HR policies and practices.
Before his engagement with NMDC, Thakur held the position of Director (HR) at BHEL. There, he initiated several strategic changes including restructuring of HR functions, policy enhancements, and the introduction of a uniform incentive scheme. His efforts focused on increasing workforce capabilities and retention, and he established standardized guidelines for labor sheds to improve workmen mobilization and retention.
An alumnus of Tilka Manjhi University, Bhagalpur, Thakur has a postgraduate degree in Literature and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resources from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).
