Anurag Kapil Appointed as NMDC’s New Director of Finance
Hyderabad, April 2, 2026: NMDC Limited, the premier iron ore company in India, announced that Anurag Kapil has taken on the role of Director (Finance) starting this Tuesday. Kapil, a distinguished 1998 batch Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) officer, brings more than two decades of experience in financial management and public administration to his new position.
Over his 26-year tenure with the Indian Railways and various Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs), Kapil has been at the forefront of financial strategy and operational management. His roles have ranged from Senior Divisional Finance Manager to Deputy Chief Vigilance Officer within the railways. Additionally, he has held significant policy-making positions as Director in the Ministry of Coal.
Before his current appointment at NMDC, Kapil was the Executive Director, Finance (Expenditure) at the Railway Board. There, he managed critical aspects of financial policy, expenditure oversight, and project evaluations. His efforts have been crucial in enhancing governance and financial protocols within Railway CPSUs, encompassing areas such as capital restructuring and disinvestment.
Kapil’s robust portfolio also includes his tenure as the interim Director (Finance) of CONCOR, where he played a pivotal role in improving financial outcomes and spearheading strategic growth projects. His international contributions are notable, having represented India in global discussions on mining, clean coal technologies, and sustainable energy practices aimed at achieving net zero emissions.
Additionally, Kapil has contributed to the board of directors for several other CPSEs, such as Singareni Collieries Company Limited and Konkan Railway Corporation Limited. His academic background is equally impressive, with a Chemistry (Hons) degree from Hans Raj College, Delhi University, an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University, and a Master’s in Public Affairs from the University of Minnesota, USA. In recognition of his exemplary service, he was awarded the National Award for Outstanding and Meritorious Service in 2009 by the Ministry of Railways.
Anurag Kapil’s extensive background in strategic financial planning and public sector administration is expected to play a critical role in driving NMDC’s continued growth and financial health.
