IGL’s Managing Director, Mr. Kamal Kishore Chatiwal, has unveiled a pivotal development in Delhi’s mission towards sustainability with the inauguration of a new Waste-to-Green Energy Plant and an Integrated CBG-CNG Fuel Station. Situated on the expansive 12,000 square-meter site at Ghogha Dairy on the Narela–Bawana Road, this facility is a cornerstone in the capital’s clean energy initiatives.
The state-of-the-art plant is engineered to process over 100 tons of waste each day, translating this into 4 tons of compressed biogas (CBG), which is the equivalent of powering about 3,000 LPG cylinders daily. The plant’s operations are robust, with a 6,000-cubic-meter digester unit that generates 4,000 kg of natural gas per day. This capacity supports the fueling of nearly 3,000 CNG vehicles and produces 15 tons of solid and 50,000 liters of liquid fertilizer annually.
By converting 36,000 tons of waste per year, the facility not only tackles the pressing issue of landfill overuse but also substantially cuts down on the need for imported energy, fostering greater energy self-reliance for the city. The project, facilitated by the provision of land by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and established at the behest of IGL, reflects a significant investment in sustainable urban development.
During the inauguration, Mr. Chatiwal expressed his gratitude to Smt. Rekha Gupta, Chief Minister of Delhi, and emphasized IGL’s commitment to expanding its network of CBG plants across Delhi. This expansion is aligned with the Delhi government’s Clean and Green mission, aiming to mitigate the city’s waste management challenges and enhance its green energy portfolio.
Mr. Mohit Bhatia, Director (Commercial) at IGL, in his vote of thanks, highlighted the dual inauguration as a historic milestone that heralds a new era of sustainable urban infrastructure and green mobility in the national capital. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of various government bodies and the pivotal role of IGL in driving forward the green agenda.
This initiative represents a transformative step towards achieving a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Delhi, setting a benchmark for other cities to follow in the realm of waste management and renewable energy solutions.
