The handover of Davanagere Power Transmission Limited, a project-specific Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), from RECPDCL to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) took place on 24th September 2025, heralding a new era in power transmission under the framework of Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB). This transition is a critical component of the government’s strategy to upgrade the nation’s power grid efficiency through private and public sector collaboration.
Under the adept coordination of RECPDCL, PGCIL emerged as the Transmission Service Provider (TSP), tasked with the development of the transmission project on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis. The project involves the augmentation of transformation capacity at the Davanagere Power Station, crucial for meeting the rising electricity demand in the region. The planned enhancements include the installation of 1×1500 MVA 765/400 kV ICT and 4×500 MVA 400/220 kV ICTs, along with additional 220 kV line bays.
The ceremony, marking this significant handover, was attended by senior officials from RECPDCL, PGCIL, and the Central Transmission Utility of India Limited. Mr. Arup Kumar Samanta, Senior DGM of the Company Secretariat at PGCIL, received the SPV on behalf of his corporation. “We are prepared to embark on this project with a clear focus on operational excellence and sustainability, ensuring timely completion and long-term reliability,” Mr. Samanta commented during the event.
With an implementation period set for 24 months and an estimated cost of Rs. 366.26 Crore, the project is not just a substantial financial undertaking but also a significant logistical endeavor. It underscores the collaborative approach between various stakeholders in the power sector to foster a more connected and efficient energy landscape.
This project aligns with the national objectives of enhancing power transmission capabilities across India, ensuring more stable and reliable power supply networks, and supporting the economic growth by catering to increasing industrial and residential electricity demands. As such, the Davanagere Transmission Project stands as a testament to the progressive vision of India’s power sector, paving the way for future projects that will further strengthen the grid infrastructure across the country.
