BPCL CMD Selection Process Set for Before Mid-November

BPCL CMD Selection Process Set for Before Mid-November

New Delhi : Sources of NewsIP reveal that the interview for the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is likely to take place before mid-November. The selection of the candidate for the CMD position will be carried out by a Search Cum Selection Committee, which includes the Secretary of Petroleum, the Chairperson of the Public Enterprises Selection  Board (PESB), and SM Surana, the former CMD of HPCL, serving as an expert on the panel.

According to information obtained by News IP, a total of 56 candidates applied for the position, with over a dozen being shortlisted for the interview process. These interviews are reportedly utilizing advanced screening techniques to ensure a rigorous selection process, reflecting the critical importance of this appointment.

Industry experts suggest that the rush in these appointments, including the CMD position at BPCL and GAIL (where interviews are also scheduled for November), could be linked to the imminent completion of service tenures for two major chairpersons in the Petroleum Ministry and the appointing body. It appears there is a concerted effort to finalize these high-profile appointments before their tenure ends.

However, a pressing question emerges regarding another major upstream company, whose CMD position remains in limbo despite the application and shortlisting process having already been widely discussed in industry circles. This situation raises concerns about the transparency and efficiency of the recruitment process in such crucial public sector undertakings.

In the coming weeks, all eyes will be on how these situations unfold, with the industry hoping for resolutions that bolster confidence in the public sector’s leadership selection processes.
