New Phase for Maharashtra’s Power Grid with RECPDCL

New Phase for Maharashtra’s Power Grid with RECPDCL

REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a fully-owned subsidiary of REC Limited, a prestigious Maharatna company under the Ministry of Power, has effectively transferred ownership of two special purpose vehicles (SPVs) dedicated to Intra-State Transmission Projects in Maharashtra. This transfer, conducted on January 9, 2026, was accomplished through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process.

The first of these SPVs, Velgaon Power Transmission Limited, was assigned to M/s Ceigall India Limited. This company was chosen as the winner in a competitive bidding process overseen by RECPDCL, which also served as the Bid Process Coordinator. The project, to be developed on a Build, Own, Operate & Transfer (BOOT) basis, involves the creation of a 400/220 kV Velgaon Substation (GIS) and the linking of both 400 kV and 220 kV circuits at the Velgaon Substation, among other related tasks. The handover ceremony was officiated by Shri Vijay Kulkarni, Senior General Manager & Head of Department (T&D), RECPDCL, with Dr. Sudhir Rao Hoshing, Whole-time Director of Ceigall India Limited, accepting the SPV. The project is slated for completion within 24 months.

Similarly, Jejuri Hinjewadi Power Transmission Limited, another SPV dedicated to enhancing Maharashtra’s transmission capabilities, was handed over to M/s The Tata Power Company Limited. This handover also took place under the guidance of Shri Vijay Kulkarni and was received by Shri Piyush Kumar, Head BD–T&D (International) of The Tata Power Company Limited. This SPV, like its counterpart, is expected to be developed on a BOOT basis with a focus on constructing a 400 kV Double Circuit transmission line stretching approximately 115 km from Jejuri to Hinjewadi, among other initiatives. This project too has a planned implementation period of 24 months.

These transactions highlight RECPDCL’s pivotal role in bolstering the transmission infrastructure in India by facilitating the development of critical projects through a transparent and competitive bid process, which in turn supports efficient and dependable power distribution across Maharashtra.
