Indian Coast Guard Welcomes New Vessel ‘Amulya’ to Enhance Maritime Security
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has recently added a significant asset to its fleet with the commissioning of the ICGS ‘Amulya’. This event took place in Goa on December 19, 2025. The ‘Amulya’ is the third vessel in the series of eight Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessels, which are a part of India’s initiative to bolster its maritime security capabilities through indigenous shipbuilding.
Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), known for its expertise in vessel construction, designed and built the 51-metre patrol vessel. Emphasizing India’s push towards self-reliance in defense production, the ‘Amulya’ incorporates over 60% indigenous components. The name ‘Amulya’, meaning ‘priceless’, aptly reflects the vessel’s value to the nation’s defense infrastructure and aligns with the Government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and Make-in-India initiatives.
The patrol vessel is equipped with two 3000 KW advanced diesel engines, enabling it to reach speeds up to 27 knots. With an operational range of 1,500 nautical miles, the ‘Amulya’ is well-prepared for extended missions along India’s vast maritime zones. Its design integrates modern technology focusing on efficiency, endurance, and rapid response to various maritime threats.
ICGS ‘Amulya’ boasts several state-of-the-art indigenous weapons and systems that enhance its maneuverability, operational flexibility, and overall performance at sea. The vessel will play a crucial role in various missions including surveillance, interdiction, search and rescue operations, anti-smuggling efforts, and pollution response, thereby reinforcing the ICG’s capabilities on the eastern seaboard.
The vessel will be stationed at Paradip, Odisha, and will operate under the command of Commandant (JG) Anupam Singh. The ‘Amulya’ is manned by a skilled crew of 05 officers and 34 personnel, operating under the administrative and operational control of the Commander, Coast Guard Region (North East).
The commissioning ceremony saw the presence of Shri Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary (IC), Ceremonial & CAO, along with senior officials from the ICG, and representatives from both Central and State Governments, as well as GSL. This event not only marks the addition of ‘Amulya’ to the ICG fleet but also signifies a step forward in the ongoing expansion of the Coast Guard’s capabilities, playing a pivotal role in strengthening coastal security.
The continued enhancement of the ICG’s fleet with vessels like the ‘Amulya’ is a clear indicator of India’s commitment to maintaining and improving the security of its maritime interests.
