A disproportionate assets case dating back to 2016 has reached its conclusion in Hyderabad, with the CBI Court sentencing a former Cotton Corporation of India official and his wife after trial.
On 11.09.2026, the CBI Court in Hyderabad, Telangana, convicted Majeti Venkata Bhavani Prasad, who served as Cotton Purchase Officer at the Cotton Corporation of India, and his wife, Smt. Majeti Priyanka. Prasad received five years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. One Lakh. Priyanka was sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 50,000.
The Central Bureau of Investigation registered the case on 03.11.2016. According to the case, Prasad, while posted in Warangal, held assets and financial resources in his own name and in the names of family members during the check period from 01.01.2010 to 21.02.2015. These were valued at Rs. 94,17,371 and were found to be 291.73% above his known sources of income.
The allegation also stated that Smt. Priyanka abetted him in the matter. Prasad could not give a satisfactory explanation for the assets and pecuniary resources.
After completing its investigation, the CBI submitted a charge sheet against the accused on 07.05.2018. Following the trial, the Hon’ble Court convicted both accused persons and delivered the sentences accordingly.
