BPCL’s Vision 2026: Leading India’s Shift to Natural Gas

BPCL’s Vision 2026: Leading India’s Shift to Natural Gas

On January 21, 2026, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), recognized as a Fortune Global 500 entity and a Maharatna PSU, unveiled its ambitious PNG & CNG Drive 2.0 at a national level. This initiative is in sync with the Indian government’s strategy to increase the proportion of natural gas within the nation’s overall energy framework, supporting the clean energy shift.

During a press briefing, Shri Subhankar Sen, BPCL’s Director (Marketing), emphasized that the PNG & CNG Drive 2.0 is a pivotal move for national development and enhancing citizens’ quality of life. He pointed out the benefits of natural gas, including safety, dependability, and continuous supply, which contribute to reduced carbon emissions and support India’s transformation into a gas-based economy amid increasing urbanization and mobility needs.

The theme of the campaign, ‘Non-Stop Zindagi,’ portrays natural gas as an uninterrupted, safe, and hassle-free energy source for households, businesses, and transportation. The use of Pipe Natural Gas (PNG) in homes negates the need for cylinder replacements and ensures a steady pressure and safer usage, while Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) promotes cleaner transportation solutions.

The launch event also saw the introduction of new television commercials for PNG and CNG, endorsed by celebrities like Shri Ravi Kishan and Ms. Sakshi Tanwar, who emphasized the safety, affordability, and environmental advantages of these fuels.

Shri Rahul Tandon, Business Head – Gas at BPCL, described the initiative as a collaborative effort across India involving both public and private City Gas Distribution (CGD) entities. This initiative is not just about supplying energy but enhancing lifestyles across residential, transportation, commercial, and industrial sectors, aligning with India’s climate goals including the Net Zero by 2070 target.

Ms. Neera Asthana Phate, General Manager at Mahanagar Gas Limited, pointed out that both PNG and CNG are integral to modern living, powering homes and fueling vehicles throughout one’s life. She stressed the importance of reaching out to people to foster a nationwide clean energy shift.

Shri Raman Malik, Head of PR & Brand at BPCL, noted the critical role of effective communication in promoting India’s clean energy agenda, stating that engaging media helps inform and encourage broader public participation in adopting these energy solutions.

The expansion of CGD infrastructure in India has been substantial. From about 25-30 geographical areas in 2014, it has expanded to cover nearly 100% of the mainland with 307 authorized areas. With a minimum target of 12.64 crore PNG household connections and 18,336 CNG stations by 2034, significant progress has already been made. The sector’s natural gas volumes have also increased significantly, further supported by PNGRB reforms like the unified pipeline tariff under ‘One Nation, One Grid, One Tariff’ which have made gas more affordable and accessible.

The campaign, running from January to March 2026, aims to deepen public engagement and fast-track the adoption of PNG and CNG, leveraging celebrity endorsements to enhance connectivity and acceptance across diverse Indian locales. BPCL, in collaboration with various CGD stakeholders, is committed to driving widespread awareness and adoption, ensuring a more sustainable and cleaner energy future for the country.
