Responsible Mining: NMDC’s Pledge on Republic Day 2026

On January 26, 2026, NMDC, India’s premier iron ore producer, observed the 77th Republic Day with events full of national pride and forward momentum at its headquarters in Hyderabad and various mining sites nationwide. This celebration underscored NMDC’s pivotal role in enhancing India’s infrastructure and promoting a sustainable development agenda.

The day’s ceremonies began with Shri Amitava Mukherjee, CMD of NMDC, hoisting the National Flag at the company’s main office, surrounded by top executives including Shri Vinay Kumar, Director (Technical), Shri Joydeep Dasgupta, Director (Production), Smt. G Priyadarshini, Director (HR), Shri C Neelakanta Reddy, CVO, among others. During his speech, Shri Mukherjee detailed NMDC’s commitment to growth through responsible and innovative mining practices. He announced, “Embracing scientific advancements and sustainability, NMDC is setting international standards in responsible mining.” He also shared impressive production figures, with 36.9 million tonnes of iron ore produced by December 2025, and an anticipated contribution of over 50 million tonnes for the fiscal year 2025.

January 2026 saw the expansion of NMDC’s operations into the Tokisud North Coal Block in Jharkhand, marking the addition of a new commodity and mining region to its portfolio. Shri Mukherjee proudly noted the company’s recognition as a Great Place to Work. The ‘Republic Day Run’ was a highlight of the day’s activities, held at NMDC’s projects in Chhattisgarh and Karnataka.

This event, symbolizing unity and collective endeavor, featured participation from NMDC’s Brand Ambassador, Ms. Nikhat Zareen, a two-time World Champion boxer, who motivated the crowd with her message of perseverance. In addition to promoting physical fitness and wellness among its employees, NMDC reinforced its commitment to community and intellectual engagement by partnering with The Hindu to organize chess competitions for students, aimed at enhancing strategic thinking and sportsmanship.

The day also included various games for NMDC employees, with winners receiving accolades during the festivities. Through these Republic Day celebrations, NMDC reiterated its dedication to responsible mining and contributing effectively to India’s economic and infrastructural development, thus fostering a more inclusive and sustainable future.
