Raipur, October 16, 2025: In a landmark achievement, NMDC Steel Limited (NSL), one of India’s most modern integrated steel plants, has been awarded the BIS license for “Hot Rolled Steel Strip, Sheet, and Plates for Welded Steel Pipe for Pipeline Transportation Systems – General Requirements (IS 18384:2023).

” The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the national Standards Body of India working under the aegis of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, is responsible for the harmonization of standards and quality assurance of goods, services, and systems.
The certification was ceremonially handed over during the World Standards Day 2025 celebrations, held at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium in Raipur. The event saw the presence of noteworthy dignitaries including the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, who presented the award to Shri Amrit Narayan, Chief General Manager (Steel) of NMDC Steel, alongside Shri Dayal Das Baghel, Hon’ble Minister of Food & Civil Supplies, and Shri S.K. Gupta, Director & Head of BIS Raipur.
This accolade not only emphasizes NMDC Steel’s unwavering commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and innovation but also spotlights its efforts in promoting sustainable development within the industry. The IS 18384:2023 standard sets a significant precedent for the production of steel products intended specifically for pipeline transportation in the petroleum and natural gas sectors, addressing stringent safety and performance criteria.
