Dr. K.P. Mahadevaswamy, the Chairman and Managing Director of NBCC (India) Ltd., expressed his enthusiasm regarding the company’s role in the Marine Eco City Project in Kochi, stating, “NBCC is privileged to collaborate as the Project Management Consultant for this pioneering waterfront initiative, which is designed to advance sustainable and comprehensive urban development. We are dedicated to applying our project management acumen to achieve timely and successful completion of this milestone project for the residents of Kerala.”
The Kerala Chief Minister initiated the Marine Eco City Project in Kochi by laying the foundation stone at Marine Drive, with the ceremony conducted online and hosted at the KTDC Convention Centre in Bolgatty, Kochi. The event was attended by notable figures including the Hon’ble Revenue and Housing Minister, members of Parliament and the Legislative Assembly, as well as key officials from the Kerala State Housing Board (KSHB) and NBCC.
In 2023, a vital agreement was signed between KSHB and NBCC to bring this project to fruition adjacent to the BPCL housing complex at Marine Drive. NBCC, a distinguished Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, is overseeing the project as a Project Management Consultant on an Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) basis.
The ambitious Marine Eco City Project is strategically located on 17.9 acres of prime waterfront property and is envisioned as a model of self-sustaining urban development that not only utilizes the land effectively but also establishes a modern nexus for residential, commercial, and hospitality sectors in Kochi.
The initial phase of this development will occupy 3.16 acres and will feature a mixed-use tower with various facilities spread over 26 levels above a lower and upper ground floor, alongside a dedicated parking structure. The construction will encompass approximately 85,733 sq. m. (around 9.22 lakh sq. ft.), which includes substantial parking space. The design incorporates retail spaces on the lower floors, office spaces on subsequent levels, followed by a clubhouse and recreational amenities, with residential units comprising both three and four-bedroom apartments occupying the upper floors. This phase is projected to cost approximately ₹480 crore and has received all necessary environmental and regulatory approvals.
Future expansions of the Marine Eco City Project will cover an additional 14.74 acres, enhancing the development’s scale significantly. The second phase is planned to include a luxury hotel and a convention center, aimed at bolstering tourism and hosting corporate events in Kochi. The third phase will introduce six more residential towers, adding nearly a thousand new homes to the complex.
Overall, the Marine Eco City Project is poised to become a significant urban feature on Kochi’s Marine Drive, enriching the city’s landscape with well-planned, sustainable, and integrated residential, commercial, and tourist facilities.
