NEW DELHI, Sept. 21, 2026 — Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s board approved a ₹2,448.70 crore investment on Monday to lay, build and operate the Kochi-Kanyakumari-Thoothukudi Natural Gas Pipeline, a 424.65 km system designed to move natural gas from Kochi to Thoothukudi.
The approval marks a major infrastructure step for natural gas transportation in southern India. The pipeline will connect Kochi with Thoothukudi through Kanyakumari, creating a long-distance gas route that supports distribution capacity across the region.
Indian Oil said the pipeline will have a total system capacity of 6.84 MMSCMD, including common carrier capacity. The company added that the common carrier capacity will be at least 1.71 MMSCMD. The investment covers the laying, building and operation of the natural gas pipeline.
