NEW DELHI, Sept. 16, 2026 — The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet cleared the appointment of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd Executive Director Manoj Kumar Sharma as Director (Projects) at GAIL (India) Ltd after approving a Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas proposal for the senior public sector role.
The appointment gives GAIL a new project head for a term that can extend to April 30, 2031. The role is significant because project execution remains central to the company’s mandate in India’s gas transmission and energy infrastructure network.
The order, dated Sept. 16, 2026, was issued by the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet under the Department of Personnel and Training. Sharma will hold the Director (Projects) post in the IDA pay scale of Rs 1,80,000 to Rs 3,40,000.
His term will begin on the date he takes charge. It will continue until the date of his retirement, April 30, 2031, or until further orders, whichever comes first.
Sharma moves to the GAIL board-level position from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, where he serves as Executive Director. The source did not provide details on investment, capacity, project targets or additional next steps linked to the appointment.
