CBI Nabs A. Director and Office Superintendent of CGHS, Meerut in Bribery Scandal

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made a significant breakthrough by apprehending the Additional Director and Office Superintendent of the Office of Additional Director, Swasthya Bhawan, CGHS in Meerut, along with a private individual, in connection with a bribery case.

The case was initiated by the CBI on 12th August 2025 following a complaint filed by the Director of Operations of a private hospital in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, against the two accused public officials. The complainant, a medical group managing multiple hospitals in the region, alleged that a surprise inspection was conducted by the CGHS team on two of their hospitals on 8th July 2025. Subsequently, official notices highlighting purported deficiencies were issued to both hospitals, allegedly with the aim of leveraging these shortcomings for personal gain.

According to the complaint, the accused individuals demanded a bribe of Rs. 50 lakh to prevent the de-empanelment of the hospitals from the list of CGHS empanelled facilities. The accused pressed for the swift delivery of the bribe amount to avoid adverse actions against the hospitals. Eventually, the Additional Director of CGHS in Meerut agreed to accept an initial installment of Rs. 5 lakh on 12th August 2025 as part payment of the total bribe.

The CBI swiftly moved to set up a trap and apprehended the two accused public officials and the private individual red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of Rs. 5 lakh. Concurrently, searches are being carried out at the residential premises of the accused individuals as part of the ongoing investigation.
