New Delhi: In a surprising turn of events, a seasoned veteran in the Power and Infrastructure sector has assumed the esteemed position of Chairman and Managing Director at NHPC Limited, India’s leading hydropower company. Stepping into this pivotal role on 1st September 2025, the new incumbent brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the forefront of this Navratna Enterprise of the Government of India.
The individual taking on this dual responsibility is none other than Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, who had been serving as the Director (Projects) at NHPC since 24th July 2024. With a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree under his belt, Shri Singh boasts over 33 years of extensive experience in executing mega projects in both India and Bhutan. His track record speaks volumes about his capabilities, having successfully overseen the commissioning of significant projects like the 800 MW Pārbati-II HEP and the impending completion of the massive Subansiri Lower HEP project.Notably, Shri Singh also took on the role of Director (Technical) at NHPC for a brief period and currently chairs the boards of NHPC Renewable Energy Limited and Jalpower Corporation Limited. Furthermore, his influence extends to joint ventures such as Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited and Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited, where he serves as a Nominee Director.
Prior to his tenure at NHPC, Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh held key positions at SJVN Ltd., where he spearheaded critical projects such as the Sunni Dam HEP and the Naitwar Mori HEP during the construction stages. His leadership as Chief Executive Officer of STPL, a subsidiary of SJVN Ltd., further underscores his strategic acumen and operational prowess in the hydroelectric power sector.
With a proven track record in project management, contract negotiation, and stakeholder liaison, Shri Singh’s appointment heralds a new chapter of growth and innovation for NHPC Limited.
