POWERGRID Centre of Excellence Opens at PEC Chandigarh
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has handed over its Centre of Excellence to Punjab Engineering College (PEC) in Chandigarh. The project moves from the agreement signed in June 2025 to a facility intended to support power-sector teaching and research.
POWERGRID Chairman and Managing Director Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra formally completed the POWERGRID PEC handover with PEC Director.Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia. The company’s account names Director (Personnel) Yatindra Dwivedi, Director (Projects) Akhilesh Pathak, Chief Vigilance Officer Naveen Kumar and Northern Region-II Executive Director Tarun Bajaj among those present.
From agreement to handover
POWERGRID and PEC signed their memorandum of understanding on June 6, 2025. PEC’s published agreement puts the estimated cost at ₹17,19,26,000—approximately ₹17.19 crore—under POWERGRID’s corporate social responsibility initiative.
The organisations intend the POWERGRID Centre of Excellence to support education, research and skills development in power and energy engineering. PEC said at the agreement stage that the planned facility would strengthen electrical-engineering laboratory resources, including work related to simulation and cybersecurity.
Mr.Burra described academic and research infrastructure as important to developing future talent. Bhatia said the centre would help students, faculty and researchers pursue advanced research and closer industry–academia collaboration.
