Union Minister Urges Petroleum Dealers to Embrace India’s Energy Transition
New Delhi: The Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, delivered a compelling address at the All India Petroleum Dealers Association (AIPDA) Conclave, urging petroleum dealers to actively participate in India’s energy transition. The Minister emphasized the importance of green initiatives, digital readiness, and evolving business models to align with the country’s dynamic energy landscape.

Empowering Dealers in the Energy Ecosystem

Recognizing the crucial role of petroleum dealers in the energy sector, Shri Puri addressed concerns related to dealer commissions and operational costs. He assured the audience of the Ministry’s commitment to dialogue over conflict, citing concrete steps taken to address disparities, such as the revision of dealer margins and intra-state freight rationalization.

India’s Energy Growth Amidst Global Challenges

Reflecting on the past five years marked by challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical conflicts, Shri Puri highlighted India’s resilience and emergence as a global leader in energy growth. Despite global uncertainties, India has shown remarkable growth in crude oil consumption and is poised to contribute significantly to global growth in the coming decades.

Advancements in Biofuels and Energy Accessibility

The Minister applauded India’s achievements in the biofuels sector, with a substantial increase in ethanol blending resulting in significant savings in foreign exchange and reductions in CO₂ emissions. He also commended the expansion of CNG stations and the provision of LPG connections under PMUY, emphasizing the milestones achieved towards a cleaner and self-reliant energy future.

Transforming Retail Outlets into Energy Hubs

Shri Puri called for a transformation of retail outlets into hubs of customer excellence, emphasizing the adoption of digital technologies, non-fuel services, and enhanced customer experiences. He outlined a roadmap for dealers to become energy entrepreneurs, focusing on upskilling, collaboration with OMCs, and the integration of sustainable practices.

Redefining the Role of Petroleum Dealers

In conclusion, the Minister urged dealers to redefine their roles beyond retail margins and actively engage in India’s energy transformation. He encouraged them to leverage their prime locations for Non-Fuel Revenue (NFR) generation and assured continued government support for the collective benefit of citizens, dealers, and Oil Marketing Companies.
