Stable Fuel Prices for Consumers Despite Global Increases

New Delhi, May 1, 2026: In a significant move to shield domestic consumers from the recent surge in global fuel costs, the retail prices of petrol, diesel, and domestic LPG (14.2 kg cylinders) have not been adjusted.

The government’s strategy focuses on maintaining price stability across essential energy commodities: – The cost for petrol and diesel, which accounts for nearly 90% of the country’s consumption, remains constant. – The pricing for domestic LPG cylinders, affecting approximately 33 crore users, also continues without alteration. – There is no revision in the cost of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) for domestic flights and Public Distribution System (PDS) Kerosene.

This decision ensures that about 80% of petroleum-based products retain their previous prices, thus providing a cushion for the vast majority of consumers.

However, some adjustments have been made in specific sectors, primarily affecting industrial usage, which represents a minor fraction of total consumption. These adjustments are part of the regular monthly reviews based on the international market rates: – There has been an upward adjustment in the prices of bulk and commercial LPG cylinders, which represent less than 1% of total consumption. – Similarly, prices for bulk diesel and ATF used by international airlines have been increased.

Conversely, prices for about 4% of petroleum products have been reduced, indicating the volatile nature of global markets.

Price Summary: – 80% of products: Stable prices – 4% of products: Reduction in prices – 16% of products: Increase in prices, mainly for industrial purposes

These measures demonstrate a thoughtful approach by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), guided by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, to balance global price trends with the necessity to protect domestic consumers and maintain economic stability.
