Puri Highlights Rural Impact with IGL’s Expanded Energy Services

New Delhi: Union Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri recently inaugurated the new Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) office in Delhi’s World Trade Centre, Nauroji Nagar, marking a significant step in India’s energy sector evolution.

The event also saw the launch of a Smart Gas Meter Manufacturing facility by IGL in collaboration with Genesis Gas Solutions, slated to commence production in October 2025. This facility aims to produce approximately one million gas meters annually, enhancing India’s self-reliance in gas meter production.

In his address, Shri Puri highlighted the substantial progress in the petroleum and natural gas sector under the current administration, with LPG connections soaring from 14 crore in 2014 to over 33 crore today. The natural gas pipeline infrastructure has also expanded from 14,000 km to more than 22,500 km, establishing India as a key player in the global refining sector.

The Minister emphasized the transformative impact of these initiatives, particularly in rural areas where IGL has extended PNG connections to 250 villages in Delhi, improving the quality of life and environmental conditions for over 100,000 rural households. Additionally, the recent announcement of 25 lakh new LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana during Navratri underscores the government’s commitment to accessible clean cooking fuel.

He praised the adoption of advanced technologies by IGL, which enhance operational efficiency and customer service. Looking forward, the Minister expressed optimism about India’s comprehensive green energy strategy, which includes expanding biogas, LNG, and electric vehicle infrastructure.
