NCST Meeting with NHPC SC/ST Welfare Association: Safeguarding ST Employees’ Rights

The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) recently held a crucial meeting with the NHPC SC/ST Employees Welfare Association and the NHPC Management at the NHPC Corporate Office in Faridabad on 22.08.2025. The meeting delved into various significant issues related to the enforcement of constitutional safeguards for Scheduled Tribe (ST) employees.

Dr. Asha Lakra, esteemed Member of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, led the NCST delegation during the meeting. Joining her were Shri Prashant Kumar Singh, IAS, Secretary to Govt. of India, NCST, Shri Amit Nirmal, Joint Secretary, NCST, Shri Y.P. Yadav, Deputy Secretary, and other senior officials from the commission. The meeting was conducted in two sessions to comprehensively address the concerns at hand.

The first session involved detailed discussions with representatives from the NHPC SC/ST Employee Welfare Association. The second session was dedicated to engaging with the senior management of NHPC, including Shri R.P. Goyal, CMD, NHPC, Shri Uttam Lal, Director (Personnel), NHPC, and other high-ranking officers.

Dr. Lakra stressed the importance of the NHPC management taking proactive steps to resolve the raised issues and submitting an Action Taken Report to the Commission. She reiterated the critical nature of upholding the rights and well-being of Scheduled Tribe employees by adhering to reservation policies mandated by the constitution.

The meeting highlighted the NCST’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of constitutional safeguards for Scheduled Tribes within public sector enterprises, underscoring the significance of safeguarding the rights and interests of all employees.
