During a recent two-day official tour to Jammu & Kashmir, the esteemed Union Minister for Power, Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, accompanied by Shri Pankaj Agarwal, the Secretary of Power, and Shri Bhupender Gupta, the Chairman & Managing Director of NHPC, made a significant visit to the NHPC’s Dulhasti Power Station in Kishtwar. Upon their arrival on the evening of January 4, 2026, they were cordially received by Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, NHPC’s Director of Projects, and Shri Ramesh Mukhia, the Managing Director of Chenab Valley Power Projects Ltd. (CVPPPL), alongside other high-ranking officials from both organizations.
The following day, a ceremonial Guard of Honour was organized by the CISF unit in honor of the Minister. The Minister and the assembled guests engaged in a tree-planting activity within the Dulhasti project vicinity, underscoring NHPC’s dedication to environmental conservation. The Minister then proceeded to oversee the ongoing construction at the three major CVPPPL initiatives, namely the Pakal Dul (1000 MW), Kiru (624 MW), and Kwar (540 MW) projects. This was followed by a detailed briefing session where the heads of the projects and their contractors discussed progress and challenges with the Minister.
The Chairman of NHPC provided a detailed update on the status of these projects, after which the Minister set forth timelines for their completion — December 2026 for Pakal Dul and Kiru, and March 2028 for the Kwar project. Additionally, the Minister took the time to engage with the local community members and the workforce, attentively addressing their issues and concerns.
Concluding his visit, the Minister commended the dedication and perseverance of the teams working under demanding circumstances, thus bolstering their spirits and emphasizing the importance of their roles in these critical infrastructural developments.
