SCOPE Leads PSEs into New Era with Labour Code Workshop

The Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) recently hosted an enlightening workshop focusing on the implementation of the new Labour Codes, supported by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India. Key figures including Dr. Mahendra Kumar, Joint Secretary at the Ministry, and Shri K. P. Mahadevaswamy, Chairman of SCOPE and CMD at NBCC, along with Shri Atul Sobti, Director General of SCOPE, inaugurated the event. Their discussions underscored the significance of the newly introduced Labour Codes. The event, which drew participation from over 160 attendees representing more than 40 public sector enterprises (PSEs), also featured an analytical presentation by Ernst & Young, detailing the specific elements of the Labour Codes.

The workshop included a panel discussion featuring insights from Ms. Richa Sharma, Director at the Ministry, Dr. Onkar Sharma, former Chief Labour Commissioner, along with Shri Ayush Gupta, Director (HR) at GAIL, and Shri K. K. Singh, Director (Personnel) at SAIL. The panelists provided an in-depth briefing on the nuances of implementing the new labour laws.

Dr. Mahendra Kumar praised the new Labour Codes as a landmark advancement in worker welfare, elaborating on the aims and key aspects of the new regulations. He commended SCOPE for its efforts in clarifying the reforms and promoting a collaborative dialogue among various stakeholders.

Shri K. P. Mahadevaswamy highlighted that these reforms represent a significant advancement, creating a transparent, trust-based labour environment that aligns with global standards while upholding social justice. He also emphasized SCOPE’s ongoing commitment to spreading knowledge and building capacity to help PSEs smoothly transition under the new legal framework.

Mr. Atul Sobti, during his address at the workshop, applauded the introduction of the new Labour Codes and pointed out the critical role public sectors play in their successful implementation. He reiterated SCOPE’s dedication to serving as an essential partner in spreading detailed knowledge and clarity about the Labour Codes through ongoing specialized programs throughout the nation.
