NHPC Limited marked Data Privacy Day 2026 on January 30, 2026, highlighting the critical role of data security and personal privacy. The event was conducted in partnership with the Data Security Council of India (DSCI). Notable attendees included Shri Bhupender Gupta, CMD of NHPC; Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects); Shri Mahesh Kumar Sharma, Director (Finance); and Shri Santosh Kumar, CVO, alongside other senior officials.
During his speech, Shri Bhupender Gupta, CMD of NHPC, emphasized the organization’s role as a Public Sector Undertaking in managing sensitive information pertaining to employees, citizens, vendors, and business partners. He pointed out that protecting this data is a matter of technical, ethical, and legal importance. He added that observing Data Privacy Day transcends mere regulatory compliance; it involves upholding individual rights, maintaining public trust, and ensuring the organization’s integrity.
Shri Sukrit Ghosh, Director at DSCI, spoke about the significant impact of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 on data privacy norms. He explained that the legislation mandates the collection of personal data solely for legitimate purposes and requires it to be shielded with adequate security measures and accessed only when absolutely necessary.
The event underscored NHPC’s dedication to enhancing data protection and privacy awareness, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to meet legal and ethical standards in the digital age.
