Chhattisgarh: On December 23, 2025, a collaborative initiative was launched between the Chhattisgarh State Government and GAIL (India) Limited, aiming to establish a new gas-based fertilizer facility within Chhattisgarh. This partnership was formalized through a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was executed in Raipur in the presence of Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister, Shri Vishnu Deo Sai. The MoU was endorsed by Shri Rajat Kumar, the Secretary of Commerce & Industries for the state, and Shri Rajeev Kumar Singhal, GAIL’s Director of Business Development.
Under the terms of the MoU, GAIL has committed to conducting comprehensive techno-economic assessments to explore the viability of constructing a urea production plant with an annual capacity of 12.7 million metric tons. This proposed plant is to be conveniently positioned along the route of GAIL’s Mumbai–Nagpur–Jharsuguda Natural Gas Pipeline. The feasibility studies and subsequent evaluations will guide GAIL’s investment decisions concerning this ambitious project.
In support of this development, the Chhattisgarh Government has pledged to assist in various capacities, ensuring smooth progress throughout the project’s phases. This includes aiding in feasibility assessments, securing appropriate land, coordinating with relevant state and central authorities, obtaining necessary statutory approvals, and providing the essential infrastructure needed for the project’s execution.
