Shri L.P. Joshi, renowned for his technical expertise, has officially taken over as the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) at THDC India Limited on October 14, 2025. Prior to his current role, he was the Executive Director of the Tehri Complex, where he significantly advanced the organization’s major hydroelectric initiatives.

Bringing over thirty years of extensive experience in the hydropower sector, Shri Joshi is a graduate with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) from MMM Engineering College, Gorakhpur. He furthered his education with a Master of Technology in Water Resources Development and Management from IIT Roorkee. His academic credentials are complemented by his practical achievements, which include key roles in the development and operational phases of significant projects.
Under his leadership at THDCIL, Shri Joshi has been instrumental in several landmark projects. Notably, he led the commissioning of the Tehri Hydroelectric Power Project Stage-I and the Koteshwar Hydro Electric Project. His strategic oversight was crucial in the successful commissioning of the first two units of India’s first Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant at Tehri, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s renewable energy efforts.
In his capacity as Executive Director, Shri Joshi managed the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Project (PSP) under the EPC mode, and played a vital role in the transfer of the 1750 MW Demwe Lower and 1200 MW Kalai-II hydroelectric projects in Arunachal Pradesh through NCLT proceedings. His expertise not only extends to project management but also encompasses Quality Assurance and restoration of systems post-natural calamities, particularly at Koteshwar following flooding.
Shri Joshi’s approach to Operations and Maintenance (O&M) has notably enhanced THDCIL’s technical standards and operational efficiency. Beyond his operational roles, he is an active contributor to the academic and professional engineering community, having presented numerous papers at prestigious forums both in India and internationally. His professional development includes specialized training in Germany and France, and he holds memberships in several esteemed engineering institutions.
This transition marks a promising phase for THDCIL, as Shri Joshi’s vision and leadership are expected to drive forward the company’s initiatives in hydropower development, ensuring sustainable and efficient energy solutions for India.
