Oil India and Mahanagar Gas Limited Forge Strategic Alliance to Boost Clean Energy

In a significant development on October 6, 2025, Oil India Limited (OIL), a Maharatna company recognized for its extensive operations in the oil and gas sector, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), a frontrunner in city gas distribution in India. The agreement, signed by senior executives from both companies, paves the way for joint endeavors in the burgeoning liquefied natural gas (LNG) market and other renewable energy initiatives.

The MoU ceremony was graced by key personnel including the Director (Operations) and Director (HR) from OIL, along with the Managing Director from MGL. These leaders expressed a shared vision for the partnership, focusing on the integration of LNG into heavy-duty transportation and the exploration of innovative clean energy projects.

Oil India is on an aggressive path to enhance its gas output and has been instrumental in various clean energy projects. Meanwhile, MGL has expanded its footprint in the LNG sector by establishing retail stations and is pushing forward with its clean energy strategies.

During the event, the Director (Operations) at OIL highlighted the strategic importance of this collaboration. “We are committed to evaluating the technical and economic aspects of utilizing LNG for heavy-duty transport. Our goal is to scale successful pilots into full-fledged commercial ventures,” he remarked.

On the flip side, the Managing Director of MGL emphasized the environmental benefits of this alliance. “Partnering with OIL will expedite the adoption of eco-friendly fuel alternatives within the long-haul transport sector, steering corporate practices towards sustainable logistics and aiding in the substantial reduction of pollution,” he stated.

This partnership is expected to not only foster innovation in clean energy technologies but also support the national agenda of reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable energy solutions.
