NMDC Boosts Donimalai with Future-Ready Mining InnovationsHyderabad, In a significant development, NMDC’s top executives recently undertook a detailed assessment of various forward-looking measures at the Donimalai Complex in Karnataka. These measures are designed to enhance operational effectiveness, uphold environmentally sustainable mining methods, and elevate the standard of living for both employees and the local community. This inspection underscores NMDC’s drive to evolve Donimalai into a technologically advanced mining hub, thus solidifying its status as a premier and conscientious iron ore enterprise in India.
The executives focused on the expansion of production capabilities and infrastructural advancements, targeting a production output of 10 MTPA at Kumaraswamy Mine and 17 MTPA at the overall Donimalai Complex. These enhancements are instrumental for NMDC’s strategic goal to scale up to a 100 MTPA iron ore production capacity.
The discussions also covered innovative strategies for the utilization of iron ore with a composition of up to 35% Fe, alongside the beneficiation of iron ore slimes and lower-grade iron-bearing materials like Banded Hematite Jasper (BHJ) and Banded Hematite Quartzite (BHQ). Historically seen as less desirable and often discarded, NMDC is transforming these materials into valuable resources through advanced mineral processing techniques. This not only aids in maximizing resource extraction but also supports sustainable mining by significantly reducing waste and environmental impact, thereby contributing to the raw material needs of India’s burgeoning steel industry.
A notable enhancement in operational procedures was the introduction of an automated gate management system at the Kumaraswamy Mine. This digital innovation promotes transparency and efficiency in iron ore dispatch processes through real-time tracking and verification of material movements. This system ensures secure transportation of minerals and enhances operational management by minimizing human involvement.
During this visit, Shri Amitava Mukherjee, CMD of NMDC, along with other key directors, launched new infrastructure developments, including High-Rise Towers, demonstrating NMDC’s commitment to improving living conditions for its workforce and fostering community development. NMDC, as the leading producer of iron ore in India, is dedicated to sustaining growth that encompasses not just meeting production goals but also enhancing living standards for its employees, aiding community initiatives, and prioritizing ecological care.
