“Healthy communities are the foundation of nation-building,” stated Amitava Mukherjee, the CMD of NMDC.
Formerly known as VIMS, the hospital has undergone a remarkable transformation, emerging as a super-specialty government facility that serves not only Ballari but also neighboring districts and parts of Andhra Pradesh. Overcrowded wards and limited resources are now a thing of the past, as modern equipment and enhanced infrastructure have enabled the hospital to provide critical care to more patients, particularly those who rely on government healthcare services.
This year, NMDC’s CSR initiative injected ₹8.33 crore into the hospital, ushering in a new era of healthcare excellence. The contribution has led to the acquisition of life-saving equipment such as ICU ventilators, neonatal circuits, Bubble CPAP and pediatric BiPAP devices, and High Flow Nasal Cannula machines. These tools have become vital in enhancing patient care, especially during emergencies and critical surgeries. In addition, the hospital’s surgical capabilities have received a significant boost with the introduction of advanced equipment like HD laparoscopes, ERCP scopes, and laser systems, previously only found in private hospitals.
Dr. T Gangadhara Gouda MBBS, MD, Director of VIMS, expresses gratitude for NMDC’s support, acknowledging the positive impact it has had on patient care. Shanthamurthy, Biomedical Engineer at VIMS, echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the hospital’s enhanced capacity to handle complex medical procedures.
For families like Sunitha’s, the impact of NMDC’s intervention is deeply personal. Sunitha, a young mother from a nearby village, recounts the harrowing experience of rushing her premature baby to the hospital, only to witness a miraculous recovery. Her story encapsulates the tangible difference that access to quality healthcare can make in the lives of individuals and communities.
NMDC’s commitment to transforming healthcare extends beyond mere philanthropy. The company sees its support for Ballari Medical College as a crucial step in ensuring that progress reaches even the most underserved populations. With investments exceeding Rs 2600 crores in key sectors over the past two decades, NMDC continues to demonstrate its dedication to uplifting communities and fostering sustainable development in the regions it operates.
As Ballari’s healthcare landscape continues to evolve, NMDC’s unwavering support serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring a brighter and healthier future for all.”
