Mumbai CBI Court sentences two officers to 7 years for 2009 custodial death.

CBI Court Sentences Two Police Officials to Seven Years Imprisonment with a Fine of Rs. One Lakh each in 2009 Ghatkopar Custodial Death Case The CBI Court, Mumbai, today, i.e. 07.10.2025 convicted and sentenced Sanjay Sudam Khedekar, the then PSI and Raghunath Vithoba Kolekar, the then HC of Ghatkopar Police Station to Seven Years Imprisonment with a fine of Rs. One Lakh each in a Custodial death Case.

In pursuance of the Hon’ble High Court of Judicature at Bombay Order dated 16.10.2009 in Criminal Writ Petition No. 2613 of 2009 filed by Smt. Mehrunissa Kadir Shaikh and the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India Order dated 23.11.2009 in Special Leave Petition (Crl.) No. 2952 of 2009 filed by Sanjay Sudam Khedekar and others, CBI, SCB, Mumbai registered the instant Case on 27.11.2009 pertaining to the death of Altaf Kadir Shaikh. It was alleged that the deceased was arrested in Ghatkopar Police Station case and died due to custodial torture by the police officials.

After completion of investigation, CBI filed chargesheet on 30.12.2010 against Sanjay Sudam Khedekar, PSI (A-1), Raghunath Vithoba Kolekar, Head Constable (A-2) and Sayaji Bapurao Thombare, Police Naik (A-3 – expired during the trial and case against him was abated).

The Hon’ble Court, after the trial, convicted and sentenced the accused accordingly.
