On March 9, 2026, in Mumbai, Mahanagar Gas Limited announced the appointment of Mr. Deepak Gupta as the new Chairman of the Board, effective from the beginning of March. This new role is in addition to his duties as the Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL (India) Limited.
Mr. Gupta, an alumnus of Delhi College of Engineering, possesses over three decades of experience in the oil and gas sector, encompassing a vast range of skills from project management to strategic planning. His technical acumen and leadership have been pivotal in his previous roles, particularly in overseeing high-stakes projects and enhancing operational efficiencies.
Since joining GAIL (India) Limited as Director (Projects) in February 2022, Mr. Gupta has spearheaded several key initiatives. These include the advancement of natural gas and LPG infrastructure, the integration of cutting-edge SCADA systems, and the implementation of sustainable energy projects aimed at achieving Net-Zero emissions. His strategic oversight extends to the maintenance of an extensive network that includes over 20,000 kilometers of pipelines and various processing plants.
Mr. Gupta’s leadership was instrumental in the completion of the Dabhol Breakwater Project under Konkan LNG Limited, ensuring year-round operational capabilities. His commitment to innovation is also evident in his push for digital transformation across operational processes.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Gupta has held several prestigious positions including Chairman of Talcher Fertilizers Limited and Director of various organizations such as ONGC Petro-additions Limited and South-East Asia Gas Pipeline Company Limited. His previous roles have also included leadership positions at Green Gas Limited and Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited, where he focused on strategic initiatives and enhancing corporate governance.
Before his tenure at GAIL, Mr. Gupta was involved in major international projects such as the Dangote Refinery in Nigeria and Mongolia’s first greenfield refinery project, contributing significantly to India’s presence in global energy markets.
A respected thought leader, Mr. Gupta has contributed numerous scholarly articles on project management and digital innovations, influencing industry standards and practices.
Alongside his new responsibilities at Mahanagar Gas Limited, Mr. Gupta continues to serve on the boards of several other prominent corporations, including Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited, GAIL Gas Limited, and Petronet LNG Limited, underscoring his extensive expertise and leadership in the energy sector.
