The partnership strengthens BPCL’s long association with Indian sport at a major continental event. It places the Maharatna PSU alongside a national contingent carrying India’s medal hopes and highlights its role in supporting both established performers and rising athletes.
The Indian contingent includes 503 sportspersons competing at the 20th Asian Games. Among them are 13 BPCL-associated athletes across cricket, hockey, volleyball, badminton, archery, athletics, swimming and table tennis. The group includes six BPCL-recruited sportspersons and seven athletes supported through the BPCL Scholarship Scheme. The source did not disclose financial terms for the partnership.
BPCL-recruited players in the contingent include Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube in cricket, and Shilanand Lakra in hockey. Jerome Vinith Charles, captain of the Indian men’s volleyball team, will lead India’s volleyball campaign, while RMV Guru Sai Dutt is associated with the Indian badminton team in a coaching role.
The scholarship-supported group includes Thirumuru Ganesh Mani Ratnam in archery, Vishal T.K. in athletics, Tharun Manepalli in badminton, Rajinder Singh in hockey, Shrihari Natraj in swimming, and Payas Jain and Syndrela Das in table tennis.
A BPCL spokesperson said sport reflects “determination, discipline, resilience and excellence,” adding that BPCL’s association with Team India, sportsperson recruitment programme and Scholarship Scheme aim to create meaningful opportunities for athletes to compete at the highest levels.
BPCL said the presence of its supported athletes across multiple disciplines reflects its continued commitment to Indian sport. The company will stand with the Indian contingent throughout the Games as athletes compete in Japan.
