NewsIP team has time and time again warned about the rising number of Dog Bites and Rabies cases in India. ( See linked articles below) The misguided affection for strays, proflagated by so called influencers and animal lovers especially on the social media has lead to a uninformed craze which has acquired dangerous proportions. No lane, no park, no street is free from the menance of stray dogs in Indian cities and villages. It has lead to an unnecessary and totally human created environment hazard. Soon the fourlegged ‘best friends’ of men may overtake human civilization.
MCD has issued a statement recently that it would increase Birth Control measures and Rabies Awareness. Such decisions have been promised in many cities but the outcomes are far from satisfactory. To see Kids & Teens affectionately petting strays and Parents gleefully preening, sends shivers down the spines of the more initiated and aware individuals.
India till now has not been able to have a strict and disciplined approach towards strays and dog bites. Even the rules regarding owning, walking and controlling pets is routinely flauted. Many cases are being routinely reported of Kids being bitten in colonies and even lifts.
This is simply unacceptable in a civilized society. For the pleasure of a few pet owners the entire population cannot be held at ransome. Stricter rules including imprisonment of erring owners need to be in place and implemented.
In the matter of the menace of dogs what is sauce for the goose may not really be sauce for the gander.
