Position never matters much when it comes to accomplishing meaningful work. What truly counts is a sense of ownership, loyalty to one’s company, and embodying virtues such as integrity, transparency, and honesty. These qualities, along with self-respect and a steadfast commitment to one’s duties, set a foundation so strong that no one can easily surpass it.
Decision-making is crucial at every level within an organization, but it is particularly vital at the top echelons. As the chairman, one must embody these principles, for without them, the seat of leadership holds little value. A leader’s role is not to seek approval or pursue personal interests, but to steadfastly do what is best for the organization. My own journey is a testament to these principles. By adhering to these values, I have navigated through countless challenges and made decisions that were both tough and necessary.
In any system, no one is infallible. Everyone has a role to play, and it should be executed in a positive and bold manner. There is no reason to succumb to pressure from others. My book A KARAMA YOGI (The untold reality of life in India’s C-PSU) aims to inspire and motivate everyone in the corporate ladder, from probationary officers to top executives. It is a narrative filled with challenges and pivotal decision-making moments that underscore a central message: the only fear should be of not meeting your own standards of integrity and commitment.
The book is designed to be a guide, showing that no external force can truly harm you if you are guided by a clear conscience and an unwavering dedication to your principles. It will demonstrate through various anecdotes and personal experiences that true power lies in self-respect and fulfilling commitments, not in titles or superficial accolades.
This story is not just about climbing the corporate ladder; it is about doing so with honor and dignity, making every step count by being true to one’s values. It is a call to action for anyone aspiring to lead, not by command, but through the respect earned by their actions and decisions. Through my narrative, I hope to ignite a spark in all who aspire to lead, showing them that the path of integrity is not only the most rewarding but also the most enduring…Abhay Kumar Singh (Former CMD of NHPC)
