What is BACHPAN?

By-Dr Dev Kanya Thakur’: BACHPAN’ at the 11th International Film Festival of Shimla (IFFS) promises an enchanting cinematic experience for children.

Scheduled from 5th to 7th September 2025 at the iconic Gothic Theatre in Gaiety Theatre, Shimla, this special initiative is set to captivate young audiences with a diverse selection of films.

Featuring a range of short films, documentaries, animations, and feature films from various cultures and genres, ‘BACHPAN’ offers more than just entertainment.

It aims to educate, ignite creativity, and expose children to different cultures through the lens of cinema. Screenings will run daily from 10 AM to 7 PM, providing an immersive setting for children to delve into the enchanting world of cinema. Interactive sessions with filmmakers will allow young attendees to engage with industry professionals, ask questions, and gain insight into the art of storytelling in film.

Pushp Raj Thakur, Festival Director of IFFS, expressed excitement about the ‘BACHPAN’ program, highlighting its role in nurturing young minds and fostering a love for cinema. The festival’s broader goal is to inspire the next generation of storytellers and cultivate a lasting connection between children and the art of filmmaking.

With 163 films from 43 countries and 23 Indian states, the 11th Edition of IFFS continues to uphold its reputation as a leading film festival in India. Supported by Himalayan Velocity, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, and the Department of Language & Culture, Government of Himachal Pradesh, this cultural event celebrates independent cinema and diverse storytelling.
