Sen’s Vision: BPCL at the Forefront of Innovation

On August 17, 2026, in a significant display of innovation and national commitment, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), recognized as a Fortune Global 500 entity and a Maharatna PSU, initiated the first dispatch of its newly developed Extreme Weather Grade (XWG) Diesel from its Bina Refinery in Madhya Pradesh.

This pioneering fuel is designed specifically to support the Indian Army’s operations in harsh high-altitude and cold environments. The inaugural send-off of the XWG diesel rake was overseen by Lt Gen Mukesh Chadha, AVSM, SM, VSM, DGST from the Integrated Headquarters of MoD (Army). The event was graced by the presence of Shri Subhankar Sen, Director (Marketing) of BPCL, alongside top officials from the Indian Army, Indian Railways, and BPCL.

This advanced diesel variant was formulated by BPCL’s Corporate Research & Development Centre (CRDC) and the Bina Refinery. Their collaborative efforts have yielded a diesel that excels in extreme weather conditions, characterized by an ultra-low pour point, low cold filter plugging point (CFPP), superior cold startability, enhanced drivability, reduced maintenance needs, and improved reliability under severe weather conditions.
